Deborah Halvorson for US Congress ()

Debbie Halvorson Debbie Halvorson is seeking election to the seat of retiring Congressman Jerry Weller (R). Halvorson is a mother of four and a small businesswoman and has served in the Illinois Senate since 1997. She is the first woman Senate Majority Leader.

Halvorson is strong supporter of reproductive rights and women's health and has a 100% pro-choice voting record.

As a state senator, Halvorson voted in favor of contraceptive coverage in health insurance and emergency contraception for rape victims. She has voted against numerous anti-choice bills including parental notification, restrictions on Medicaid funding for abortion, and measures designed to give the rights of personhood to a fetus. Most recently she has been a leader on the issue of HPV and cervical cancer prevention through sponsoring legislation and speaking publicly about her own experience having a hysterectomy.
